About the Author:

Thomas Trezise is Professor of French at Princeton University. He was educated at Cornell University and Yale University, as well as at the University of Paris and the University of Strasbourg, specializing in modern French literature, literary theory, and continental philosophy. After publishing Into the Breach: Samuel Becket and the Ends of Literature, he shifted his attention to trauma and Holocaust studies, which led to Witnessing Witnessing: On the Reception of Holocaust Survivor Testimony, and to the memoir Beginning Again: A Spouse’s Story of Life After Trauma. He is also the editor of volumes on Emmanuel Levinas and Patrick Chamoiseau, and the translator of books by Paul de Man and Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe. His research now focuses on the literature and culture of Martinique and Guadeloupe.

Trezise lives in Vermont with his spouse, the philosopher Susan J. Brison, author of Aftermath: Violence and the Remaking of a Self.
